Objective: Students will be able to determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text. Do Now: Students will work independently to answer a prompt projected on the board (minimum of 5 complete sentences). Whole Class: We'll review what we've read already in Act 4 and the beginning of 5 of Macbeth. After the necessary review, I'll assign parts, and we'll continue reading Macbeth, Act 5 aloud as a class. We will finish the play today! I'll also introduce the various options for the Macbeth project. Independent: Students will answer questions about the characters and the text in their Macbeth Study Guide, posted via Google Classroom. During the last 30 minutes of class, students will read the assigned article ("Sentenced to Shakespeare") on Achieve 3000. Students must pass the activity with a score of 75% or above. Collaborative: Students will do several "pair and share"s throughout the period to answer questions posed to the class about characters, plot, and themes in Macbeth. Also, to break up the monotony, I'll teach students a new improv game halfway through class. Exit Ticket: N/A Standard: R.L. 9-10.2
