Objective: Students will be able to understand and recall the characters and themes in Oedipus Rex. Do Now: Students will work independently to answer a prompt projected on the board (minimum of 5 complete sentences). Whole Class: Students will review the characters and themes in the play and continue to read the play Oedipus Rex aloud as a class. Once we get to line 1310, I'll assign students a number (of a group) and each student will read an analysis of the first section of the play and present to the class how one of the five themes is present in the first section of the play. Then, we'll finish reading the play. I'll assign and explain their group project on the play Oedipus Rex. Finally, I'll build off a previous improv exercise and students will need to create dialogue based on a scene starter. Independent: Students will study the characters and themes in the play Oedipus Rex. Collaborative: Students will research and analyze the themes present in the first section of the play. Students will do several "pair and share"s throughout the period to summarize what they've learned and ask clarifying questions of their partner. Exit Tickets: Students will take out a piece of paper and answer several recall questions about concepts that were discussed in class. Standard: RL 9-10.2
