Objective: Students will write arguments to support claims, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. Do Now: Students will work independently to answer a prompt projected on the board (minimum of 5 complete sentences). Whole Class: Students will review the resources available to them in Google Classroom to finish up writing their persuasive speech. Independent: Students will review several videos in Google Classroom to aid with finishing and presenting their persuasive speech. Whole Class: Students will review the basic elements of a persuasive speech and review the resources available on Google Classroom. Independent: Students will start to fill out a basic outline for their persuasive speech topic. They'll also need to create questions to research. Then, they will research their topic and complete the basic outline. Finally, they'll create a detailed outline with all of their claims, research, and opening and closing statements. Collaborative: Students will do several "pair and share"s throughout the period to summarize what they've learned and ask clarifying questions of their partner. Exit Tickets: N/A Standard: RL 9-10.2
Objective: Students will be able to understand the organizational elements of a persuasive speech and produce a working outline. Do Now: Students will work independently to answer a prompt projected on the board (minimum of 5 complete sentences). Whole Class: Students will review the basic elements of a persuasive speech, based on the handout they read and annotated. Independent: Students will read and annotate a handout on the organizational structure of a persuasive speech. Then, they will research and choose a topic. Finally, they'll continue to research their topic, creating a basic outline, based on their handout. Collaborative: Students will do several "pair and share"s throughout the period to summarize what they've learned and ask clarifying questions of their partner. Exit Tickets: Students will take out a piece of paper and answer several recall questions about concepts that were discussed in class. |
